lighting notes

  • When photographing people indoors by available light, move lamps closer to them or vice versa for more flattering light.
  • Crumple a big piece of aluminum foil, spread in out again, and wrap it around a piece of cardboard, shiny side out. It makes a good reflector.
  • If your subject is front lit by window light, keep the person close to the window to make the room’s back wall fall off in darkness.

portraits

I like these black and white portraits because it really brings out their unique facial structures and appearances. I also like how focused it makes them. I want to do my little sister because i like the look of they black and white or dark colored settings with a little kids facial features. It makes them look older in a way and just the emotion with the black and white is very emotional and interesting.

I like this portrait because i like how the fabric kind of molds to the side of the little girl. I like the darker setting and emotion in the little girls face. her features are brought out way more than they would be just with the regular photo. i also like the texture of the fabric her hair and headband.

I like this one because of the way the light is mainly focused on his face and the violin. I like the different leading lines and the texture of his hat and shirt. Everything is just very balanced and it has a lot of emotion in his face with the violin and placement of the picture.

i think my photo represents leading lines because the berries and stems all lead your eyes throughout the picture. Also how the sidewalk curves in it also leads your eyes into the berries and stems.
